Weekend Preview – USA (8/4-6): ‘Oklahoma!’ Dominates Weekend As ‘Dimitrij’ Has Last Hoorah

The festival season keeps on rolling along with a number of performances across the states.

At the Glimmerglass Festival you can get your helping of bel canto with “The Siege of Calais” or modern opera with “Scalia Ginsburg” on Friday. You can enjoy a musical in the form of “Oklahoma” or Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess” on Saturday with an offering of the baroque opera “Xerxes” on Sunday. The festival has you covered.

For those interested in taking a look at something more outlandish and rare, then Bard Summerscape is putting on Dvorak’s “Dimitrij” which concludes its run on Friday and Sunday.

Elsewhere, Seagle Music Colony is putting on “Die Zauberflöte” on Friday and Saturday while Central City Opera showcases “Così Fan Tutte,” “Gallantry,” and “Carmen” all across the weekend.

Charlottesville Opera will put on “Oklahoma!” and Opera Steamboat will showcase “Cavalleria Rusticana.”

The Santa Fe Opera continues its festival with performances of “The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs,” and “Lucia Di Lammermoor” on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Seattle Opera restarts with “Madama Butterfly” and West Edge Opera presents “Hamlet” and “L’arbore di Diana.”
