Weekend Preview (International) – 6/9-11: Placido Domingo Sings Posa In Verdi’s ‘Don Carlo’ With Ramon Vargas

Austria
The Vienna State Opera offers a range of operatic opportunities this weekend starting with Gaetano Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” starring Danielle de Niese and Speranza Scappucci in the podium. Saturday is Verdi’s “Rigoletto” led by Aida Garifullina, Roberto Frontali and Yosep Kang as Herzog Von Mantua. On Sunday Verdi’s, “Don Carlo” takes center stage with Ramon Vargas as Don Carlo, Placido Domingo as Posa and Krassimira Stoyanova as Elizabeth.
China
The National Centre for Performing Arts presents “Der Rosenkavalier.” The production will run from Friday, June 9th until the 10th.
Czech Republic
Richard Wagner’s “Lohengrin” will premiere at the Prague National Opera and Charles Kim will be leading in the title role.
France
Rossini’ “La Cenerentola” will open Saturday, June 10th while Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” will continue their runs.
Germany
Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” and Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” take center stage at the Bayerische Staatsoper.
Italy
At the Teatro Alla Scala Sonya Yoncheva leads a revival of Puccini’s “La Boheme with Fabio Sartori as her leading man.
Norway
Saturday, June 10 Jeg Er Lucia will be performed at Den Norske Opera
Russia
On Friday, the Mariinsky Theater presents Gounod’s “Faust” starring Sergei Semishkur and Viktoria Yastrebova.
On Saturday, the operatic fun continues with Verdi’s “Don Carlo” featuring Nazhmiddin Mavlyanov, Mikhail Petrenko, Alexei Markov, Tatiana Serjan and Ekaterina Semenchuk. The opera will be conducted by Valery Gergiev.
Concluding the operatic performances of the weekend is Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” which will feature Roman Burdenko, Maria Bayankina, and Mikhail Petrenko.
United Kingdom
Pretty Yende continues her performances in Donizetti’s comic gem “L’Elisir d’Amore.”
