Weekend Preview- International (6/2-4): Joyce DiDonato Continues Her Tour In Barcelona

You’ve been working hard all week, so kick off your shoes and take a look at some of our weekend opera recommendations, from all around the globe.

Austria

The Vienna State Opera starts off the weekend by presenting Beethoven’s “Fidelio.” It will be followed by Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” featuring Linda Watson as the Marschallin and Peter Rose as Baron Ochs.

Czech Republic

The Prague National Opera will showcase Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” on Sunday, June 4, 2017.

Denmark

The Royal Danish Opera will continue its production of “Macbeth” starring Dario Solari in the title role.

Saturday, the company proceeds with Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffmann” featuring Zoltán Nyari as the Drunken Poet.

Exploratory audiences should check out the Copenhagen Opera House tours as they go in depth on the house’s unique architecture and history.

France

Verdi’s “Rigoletto” continues at the Opéra National de Paris in Claus Guth’s theatrical production. Nadine Sierra continues her acclaimed turn as Gilda.

Germany

At the Semperoper Britten’s “Billy Budd” comes to an end. John Chest portrays the title role and Richard Croft sings Edward Fairfax Vere.

Following “Billy Budd” will be Puccini’s “Turandot” conducted by Alexander Vedenikov. Catherine Fosters stars in the title role. The weekend concludes with Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman,” conducted by Donald Runnicles.

At the Bayerische Staatsoper, Javier Camarena stars as Don Ramiro in  Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with Tarra Erraught in the title role. The company continues its run of Wagner’s Tanhausser” with Klaus Florian Vogt and Anja Harteros.

Russia

On Friday, the Mariinsky Theater presents Borodin’s “Prince Igor,” conducted by Mikhail Sinkevich as well as Weinberg’s “The idiot” led by Ilya Selivano, and Maria Bayankina.

On Saturday “Iolanta,” “Mozart”,”Samson et Dalila” and the premiere of “The Diary of a Madman” will be performed.

The weekend of performances comes to an end with Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” conducted by Zaurbek Gugkaev.

Spain

Sunday, June 4, 2017, mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato will be performing at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, continuing her tour of her album “In War and Peace.”

UK

Laurent Pelly’s production of Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’ Amore” will continue its run with Pretty Yende and Liparit Avetisyan.
