Weekend Preview – International (3/24-26): Jonas Kaufmann, Edita Gruberova and Olga Peretyatko Performing This Weekend

It’s the weekend and every major house is in full swing. The biggest stars like Jonas Kaufmann, Anja Harteros, Edita Gruberova and Maria Guleghina are all performing this weekend. Here’s a rundown of what you have a chance to see.

Argentina 

The Teatro Colón continues its acclaimed run of Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” with Virginia Tola and Sabrina Cirera sharing the title role.

Austria

The Vienna State Opera is packed with exciting operas including a concert with legendary soprano Edita Gruberova who is scheduled to performed works from Dvorak and Rimsky-Korsakov. Gounod’s “Faust” will continue on Saturday with Jean-Francois Borras, Luca Pisaroni, Orhan Yildiz, and Anita Hartig. On Sunday the weekend ends with Massenet’s “Werther.” Ludovic Tézier stars in the leading role with Adrian Eröd and Sophie Koch.

Alexandra Deshorties takes on the title role in Rossini’s “Elisabetta” at the Theater an der Wien. Barry Banks also stars.

Belgium 

La Monnaie will be showing Janacek’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” in a production by Christophe Coppens.

Handel’s “Agrippina” takes center stage at the Vlaanderen Opera with Ann Hallenberg in the title role.

The Opera Royal de Wallonie will end its acclaimed run of Verdi’s “Jérusalem” after a successful live stream.

France 

Berlioz’s “Beatrice e Benedict” will be performed in a concert performance at the Opera National de Paris followed by Bizet’s “Carmen” with Roberto Alagna and Clémentine Margaine.

Germany 

Lisette Oropesa leads the cast in Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio” at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Meanwhile, Karita Mattila takes on the title role in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” with Jane Archibald. Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Harteros take on a concert performance of Giordano’s “Andrea Chénier.”

The Staatsoper Berlin will present Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Oksana Dyka, Teodor Ilincai, Alfredo Daza and Katharina Kammerloher.

At the Semperoper Dresden audiences will get a chance to experience Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and Busoni’s “Doktor Faust.”

The Hamburg State Opera will present Bizet’s “Carmen” with Elena Zhidkova in the title role as well as Rossini’ “Guillaume Tell” with Yosep Kang and legendary baritone Sergei Leiferkus.

Italy

The Teatro alla Scala will present “Der Meistersinger Von Nurnberg” while the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma will continue its run of Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” with Marina Rebeka and Carmela Remigio.

Veronica Simeoni and Marina Comparato share the title role of Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Teatro la Fenice this weekend. Maria José Siri and Gregory Kunde sing the final performance of Puccini’s “Manon Lescaut” at the Teatro Regio di Torino.

Japan

Olga Peretyatko highlights Donizetti’s “Lucia Di Lammermoor” at the New National Tokyo Opera. The soprano is joined by Artur Ruscinki and Ismael Jordi as her brother Enrico and lover Edgardo.

Monaco

Annalisa Stroppa and Dmitry Korchak continue the run of Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Opera de Monte Carlo.

Russia

Yusif Eyvazov and Maria Guleghina star in Verdi’s “Don Carlo” at the Bolshoi Opera while the Mariinsky Theater presents Tchaikovsky’s “Iolanta” and “Eugene Onegin.”

Spain 

Lucy Crowe and Sabina Puértolas alternate the title role in Handel’s “Rodelinda” at the Teatro Real. The new production is directed by Claus Guth and will be conducted by Ivor Bolton.

Javier Camarena continues his run of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” with Carlos Alvarez in the title role with Desirée Rancatore at the Liceu.

United Kingdom 

The Royal Opera House will present Wagner’s “Der Meistersinger von Nurnberg” with Sir Bryn Terfel and Sir Antonio Pappano conducting.
