Weekend Preview (6/16-18) – USA: ‘Frida,’ ‘Thumbprints,’ ‘Angels in America’ Among Rare Offerings

It is a busy weekend around the Opera World. Here are some of the big events to keep an eye out for.

Opera Avalon showcases “Dead Man Walking” on Friday and Saturday while American Opera Projects gives audiences “Three Way” on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Kamala Sankaram’s “Thumbprints” gets a showcase on both the east and west coast. Beth Morrison Projects presents the opera throughout the weekend as does the Los Angeles Opera.

Audiences at Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre can experience “Speed Dating Tonight!” on Friday and Sunday while Cincinnati Opera presents “La Bohéme” on Saturday.

Those craving something a biopera can head over to Long Beach Opera, which gives “Frida” on Saturday and Sunday.

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is in full swing with performances of “La Clemenza di Tito” on Friday and Sunday and “The Grapes of Wrath on Sunday.

Over at San Francisco Opera, audiences can check out “Don Giovanni” on Friday while getting a dose of Quinn Kelsey in “Rigoletto” on Sunday. The New York City Opera gives its final performance of “Angels in America” on Friday.

At the New York Opera Fest 2017, audiences can check out Apotheosis Opera’s “Capriccio” on Friday and Sunday.
