In anticipation of the world premiere of the Maria Callas biopic “Maria,” the first clip of the film has been released.

The clip showcases Angelina Jolie as La Divina alongside Pierfrancesco Favino in an undisclosed character. The score showcases Desdemona’s “Ave Maria” from Verdi’s “Otello” played on the piano.

The movie is set to make its world premiere at the Venice Film festival on August 29 and tells the tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic story of the life of the world’s greatest female opera singer, relived and reimagined during her final days in 1970s Paris.

The cast also includes Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Stephen Ashfield, and Valeria Golino and features cinematography by Oscar nominee Ed Lachman. Pablo Larraín directs the film.

“Maria” is set to be present at the Telluride Film Festival and New York Film Festival and is still searching for a distributor.
