The DVD and Blu-Ray for “Maria By Callas” is set to hit stores on Feb. 12, 2019, and in anticipation, OperaWire is sharing an exclusive regarding the documentary.

The film, which is directed by Tom Volf, was a years-long project that initiated after Volf went to Joyce DiDonato star in “Maria Stuarda” at the Metropolitan Opera. From there, he set out to discover as much as he could about Maria Callas in order to create a comprehensive portrait about the famed diva in her own words.

“I interviewed all of her friends to begin with but there was this moment when I realized that we could do something more and go further in making the film with her own words,” Volf told OperaWire in an interview in anticipation of the film’s U.S. theatrical release.

The film was well-received by critics around the world.
