Watch ‘Die Walküre’ On Great Performances At the Met on PBS

By David Salazar

Wagner’s “Die Walküre” is set to appear on Great Performances at the Met on August 12 at 12 p.m.

The opera will feature Robert LePage’s famed production with Christine Goerke, Greer Grimsley, Stuart Skelton, Jamie Barton, Eva-Maria Wesbroek, and Günther Groissböck among the cast members. Philippe Jordan conducts the second installment in Wagner’s famed tetralogy.

Of the opera’s opening performance, OperaWire’s review noted, “Jordan’s leadership was but one factor for this incredible performance of ‘Die Walküre.’ Here’s hoping that ‘Siegfried’ and ‘Götterdämmerung’ match and better this level of immersive music-making.”

The broadcast for this performance was hosted by Deborah Voigt, who famously took on the role of Brünnhilde when this production first opened.

Next up on the broadcasts is Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmélites,” which will likely be screened in September. That opera stars Isabel Leonard, Erin Morley, and Karita Mattila, among others.
