On July 14, 2018, the Bolshoi Theatre celebrated the closing of the FIFA World Cup with an opera gala featuring some of the greatest singers.
Anna Netrebko, Hibla Gerzmava, and Placido Domingo headlined the evening performing alongside such noteworthy singers as Ildar Abdrazakov, Yusif Eyvazov, and Fabio Sartori. The gala showcased arias from “Andrea Chénier,” “La Forza del Destino,” “Faust,” “Tosca” “Turandot” and “Porgy and Bess.” Domingo also performed from Zarzuela and the Bolshoi ballet performed a tribute to soccer. The gala also saw Vladimir Putin and FIFA president Gianni Infantino among prestigious guests.
The evening marked the second concert celebrating the World Cup. Netrebko, Domingo, Eyvazov, and Abdrazakov were among the guests at the opening night gala, which was held at Red Square. That concert also saw Aida Garifullina, Albina Shagimuratova, and Juan Diego Flórez perform.
