Washington National Opera Announces 2023-2024 Cafrtiz Young Artists

Washington National Opera has announced the 2023- 2024 Cafritz Young Artists cohort.

The first-year artists are sopranos Tiffany Choe and Kresley Figueroa, mezzo Winona Martin, tenor Sahel Salam, bass Sergio Martinez, and pianist Pei-Hsuan Lin. Returning, second-year artists are soprano Tersa Perrotta, contralto Cecilia McKinley, tenor Jonathan Pierce Rhodes, baritones Justin Burgess and Jonathan Patton, and pianist Nicole Cloutier.

Cafritz Young Artists will perform in upcoming productions such as Gounod’s “Romeo and Juliet” on November 17, 2023, WNO’s holiday opera “The Lion, the Unicorn, and Me,” on December 8-10, 2023, and Händel’s “Partenope” on March 29 and 30, 2024. They will also participate in three new opera to be debuted as part of WNO’s “American Opera Initiative on Jan. 19, 2024.

“We’re so pleased to welcome another class of Cafritz Young Artists,” said WNO Artistic Director Francesca Zambello in an official press statement. “Through this program, the nation’s leading young singers are given access to the training and experience that will serve them as they embark on successful international careers. By investing in the Cafritz Young Artists, WNO invests in the future of opera.”

The program provides singers, pianists, and coaches just starting their careers with training from company mentors and performance opportunities on Kennedy Center stages.
