Washington Concert Opera Names New Executive Director

The Washington Concert Opera has announced that Tehvon Fowler-Chapman will become WCO’s new Executive Director, starting on August 3, 2020. 

Fowler-Chapman has held roles at organizations spanning the performing arts, including  Vical Arts DC, National Sawdust, and Wolf Trap Opera. He has also worked alongside Artist Relief Tree, Sphinx Organization, and Project 440.

“I’m incredibly excited to return to the D.C. opera community and serve as Executive Director of Washington Concert Opera,” Fowler-Chapman said in a press release. “I look forward to working with Maestro Antony Walker in executing his artistic vision while reaching far and wide to audiences throughout the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area,” he continues.

He is a graduate of Indiana University and Arizona State University. 

This season the Washington Concert Opera is scheduled to perform three operas. The season is set to open with Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra.” The Verdi opera will be followed by “Rossini “Maometto Secondo,” featuring a superstar squad of singers including Luca Pisaroni, Elizabeth DeShong, and Leah Crocetto.

Closing out the season will be an equally starry performance of Bellini’s “I Puritani” with Brenda Rae and René Barbera. The season is slated to open in September.
