Waltraud Meier, Ermonela Jaho & Michael Spyres Win at OPER! Awards

The OPER! Awards announced its 2024 winners on Jan. 29, 2024.

The awards were held at the Dutch National Opera, which won the Opera House of the Year accolade.

The evening saw Waltraud Meier, who recently retired from the opera stage, receive the Lifetime Honorary Award.

The Female Singer of the Year went to Ermonela Jaho, while Michael Spyres won the Best Male Singer of the Year.

Nathalie Stutzmann won the Best Conductor award, while “The Greek Passion” from the Salzburg Festival won the Best Performance of the year. Huw Montague Rendall took home Best Newcomer while Lydia Steier won Best Director. La Monnaie De Mont went home with the Best Future Project award

Cyrille Dubois’ “So Romantic”! from Alpha Classics won Best Solo Album while the Bayreuth Baroque went home with the Best Festival.

Opera Rara won the OPER! Award for Best Opera Recording for its studio release of Offenbach’s “La Princesse de Trébizonde” and Tobias Picker and Aryeh Lev Stollman’s newest opera “Lili Elbe” was named Best World Premiere of 2023. Bizet’s “Ivan IV” won Best Rediscovery which was presented at the State Theater Meiningen.

The Best Orchestra was award awarded to the Teatro alla Scala orchestra while the Monteverdi Choir won Best Choir.

Paul Zoller won Best Stage Design while Klaus Bruns won Best Costume Designer. Finally, the Best Sponsor was awarded to the Royal Opera of Versailles Foundation.
