Waltraud Meier Announces Retirement

By Francisco Salazar

Waltraud Meier is retiring from the stage after a 40-year international career.

On Saturday, April 1, the mezzo-soprano returned home to Wurzburg to give her final concert. The concert was held in the same concert hall where Meier began her career in 1976.

While the evening was not her last public appearance, Meier confirmed it was her last appearance in Wurzburg. Meier next performs a recital in Tokyo and she is set to give her final operatic performances at the Staatsoper under Linden in a production of “Elektra.” Meier will sing the role of Klytaemnestra.
