The Volksoper Wien has appointed Ben Glassberg as its new Music Director. 

The company said “Omer Meir Wellber announces his resignation as music director of the Volksoper Wien on December 31, 2023 for personal reasons. We are delighted to welcome British conductor Ben Glassberg as our new Music Director from 2024! We thank Omer Meir Wellber for the unforgettable moments and look forward to the upcoming exciting time with Ben Glassberg.”

Wellber began his tenure as the Music Director in September 2022  and was set to conduct new productions and repertoire performances for five seasons.

Glassberg is the Music Director of the Opéra de Rouen Normandie and is set to make house debuts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. He is a former Associate Guest Conductor of the Orchestre National de Lyon, and has worked with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Teatro Massimo di Palermo, among others.
