Volksoper Wien Announces 2023-24 Season

The Volksoper Wien has announced its 2023-24 season. Here are the opera productions.

New Productions 

Strauss’ “Salome” will star Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Ursula Pfitzner, Astrid Kessler, Tommi Hakala, and JunHo You. Omer Meir Wellber conducts the Salzburger Festspiele 1992 by Luc Bondy.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15-Oct. 29, 2023

Offenbach’s “Die Reise zum Mond” is set to be conducted by Alfred Eschwé and will star Carsten Süss, Aaron Casey Gould, Alexandra Flood, Christoph Stocker, Jaye Simmons, Sofia Vinnik, and Jonathan Hamouda Kügler.

Performance Dates: Oct. 14, 2023-June 25, 2024

“Lass uns die Welt vergessen – Volksoper 1938” is set to star Johanna Arrouas, Theresa Dax, Sofia Vinnik, Anita Götz, Ulrike Steinsky, Wolfgang Gratschmaier, and Nicolaus Hagg. Keren Kagarlitsky conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 14, 2023-Jan. 25, 2024

Bernstein’s “West Side Story” will be conducted by Ben Glassberg and directed by Lotte de Beer. 

Performance Dates: Jan. 26-March 24, 2024

Lehár’s “Die lustige Witwe” stars Szymon Komasa, Hedwig Ritter, Anett Fritsch, Daniel Schmutzhard, Jakob Semotan, and Aaron Casey Gould. Omer Meir Wellber conducts the production by Mariame Clément.

Performance Dates: March 2-April 14, 2024

Matilda Sterby, Rebecca Nelsen, Leonardo Capalbo, Timothy Fallon, and Andrei Bondarenko perform Puccini’s “La Rondine.” Alexander Joel conducts the production by Lotte de Beer.

Performance Dates: April 10-May 10, 2024

Nicole Paiement conducts a new production of John Adams’ “The Gospel According to the Other Mary.” Wallis Giunta, Jasmin White, Limmie Pulliam, Jaye Simmons, Christopher Ainslie, and Edu Rojas.

Jerry Bock’s “Anatevka” returns to the stage.

Performance Dates: Sept. 2-Oct. 24, 2023

“Die Dreigroschenoper” will return in a production by Maurice Lenhard.

Performance Dates: April 21-June 10, 2024

Carl Millöcker and Theo Mackeben’s “Die Dubarry” will be performed in a production by Jan Philipp Gloger.

Performance Dates: May 20-June 12, 2024

Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” will return in the production by Nurkan Erpulat.

Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” will return for a full year.

Moritz Eggert’s “Die letzte Verschwörung” returns in Lotte de Beer‘s production.

Nina Spijkers’s production of Nicolai’s “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor” is revived.
