The Volksoper Wien and Landestheater Linz have announced that they will remain closed until further notice.

Both Austrian opera houses stated that they had no idea when performances could resume and that they will inform audiences in a timely manner when performances will be allowed.

Meanwhile, the Theater an der Wien announced via its Facebook Channel that it will continue rehearsals for Prokofiev’s “The Fiery Angel,” and that it hopes the theater will be allowed to reopen in time for performances starting March 17. “The Fiery Angel” is set to star Aušrinė Stundytė, Bo Skovhus, Natascha Petrinsky, Elena Zaremba, and Nikolai Schukoff.

The news comes as the Wiener Staatsoper and Oper Graz have already extended closures due to the Austrian federal government’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Austrian opera houses have been closed since early November 2020, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The Austrian government is trying to analyze the situation, given the rapid spread of the novel virus.
