Vocal Arts D.C. is set to stream the Gerald Perman Emerging Artists Recital featuring mezzo-soprano, Emily D’Angelo, with pianist Sophia Muñoz accompanying.
Streaming access begins April 9, 2021, and will be available through 11:59 P.M. on April 18, 2021. In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the organization, the recital is free to watch.
By all measures, D’Angelo has had an impressive start to her career. She is a recent alumna of the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and has won several major international competitions including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Operalia, the George London Competition, the Gerda Lissner Competition, and a 2020 Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award.
The recital’s broad program lifts up female composers with pieces showcasing works by Florence Price, Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Missy Mazzoli, Rebecca Clarke, Cecilia Livingston, and Clara Schumann. Other selections include compositions by Copland, Zemlinsky, and Schoenberg.
“Emily D’Angelo is a gifted and illustrious mezzo-soprano,” Vocal Arts DC General Director, Peter Russell, said in a press release. “This program is delightfully unhackneyed, drawing on selections from off-the-beaten-path, including those by some of today’s most outstanding women composers.
