Vladimir Stoyanov Leads Sofia National Opera’s Reopening

By Francisco Salazar

The Sofia National Opera is set to reopen on June 19 with a Tutto Verdi mini-festival.

The Bulgarian company will open with Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” in a full production with sets and costumes, a full cast and chorus, and orchestra. However, the audience will be socially distanced.

It will be followed by “Rigoletto” on June 21 and “La Traviata” on June 25. Vladimir Stoyanov will star in all three performances.

Stoyanov recently made his debut at Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2019 with “Pique Dame” and performed Iago in “Otello” with Zubin Mehta in Baden-Baden, “Lucia di Lammermoor” in Valencia and the opening night cast of “Rigoletto” last summer in Bergenz. He has also performed Opéra de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, and Teatro Real de Madrid.
