Vivica Genaux, Eric Ferring & Frederick Ballentine Highlight Florentine Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Florentine Opera has announced its 2020-21 season featuring four productions and a number of concerts.

The season opens with Verdi’s “Rigoletto” starring Todd Thomas in the title role, Jessica Jones, Scott Quinn, Alan Higgs, and Olivia Vote.

Omer Ben Seadia directs the production with Francesco Milioto conducting.

Performance Dates: Oct. 9 & 11, 2020

Weill’s “Little Mahagonny” will showcase Emily Michiko Jensen, Taylor-Alexis DuPont, Nathaniel Catasca, and Steve Valenzuela.

Performance Dates: Feb. 12 & 14, 2021

Viadot’s “Cinderella” and Ravel’s “The Child and the Enchantments” will form a new double bill directed by Jill Anna Ponasik. Ugo Mahieux performs on piano and conducts a cast that includes Annie Rosen, Juliet Petrus, Andres Acosta, Kathryn Henry, Ugo Mahieux, Jill Anna Ponasik, Leia Lensing, and Seunghee Lee.

Performance Dates: March 12-21, 2021

Chuck Hudson directs Puccini’s “La Bohème” with Domenico Boyajian conducting. Frederick Ballentine, Michelle Johnson, Sidney Outlaw, Kelobogile Besong, Corey McGee, and Vince Wallace star.

Performance Dates: May 7 & 9, 2021

 

Concerts

Vivica Genaux and Jory Vinikour perform baroque gems in a one night only concert.

Performance Date: Jan. 19, 2021

Eric Ferring, with accompanist Madeline Slettedahl, will perform an evening of operatic staples and songs.

Performance Date: April 14, 2021

Thee Florentine Opera at the Lueders Opera Center and at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center will interpret drinking songs, Shakespeare and La Vie en Rose.

Performance Dates: Oct. 23-25, 2020

In celebration of the holiday season, the company will present Carols and Classics. 

Performance Dates: Dec. 11-19, 2020
