
Vittorio Grigolo & Met Opera Conductor Timur Zangiev to Perform Russia Concert on Anniversary of Invasion of Ukraine
By Francisco SalazarVittorio Grigolo and Timu Zangiev are set to perform a concert in Moscow on Feb. 25 at the Tchaikovsky Hall.
The concert, which takes place four years after the invasion of Ukraine, will showcase the Italian tenor alongside the Russian National Orchestra, conducted by Zangiev.
The concert will showcase the repertoire that includes Massenet, Bizet, Gounod, Offenbach, Meyerbeer, and Halévy.
This is the latest concert for Grigolo in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces. He has already performed in St. Petersburg for the Classics on Dvortsovaya, Zarydaye Hall, Mikhailovsky Theatre, and Classics at the Palace.
Meanwhile, Zangiev is set to lead a production of “Eugene Onegin” at the Metropolitan Opera, despite General Manager Peter Gelb’s claims that the Met “can no longer engage with artists or institutions that support Putin or are supported by him.”
On Feb. 24, 2025 Russia invaded Ukraine, starting the largest and deadliest war in Europe since World War II. As of February 2026, Russian troops occupy almost 20 percent of Ukraine. From a population of 41 million, about 8 million Ukrainians have been internally displaced and 6–7 million have fled the country.
