Vincenzo Milletarì Appointed Principal Conductor of Göteborg Opera

Vincenzo Milletarì has been appointed as the new Principal Conductor of the Göteborg Opera.

Milletarì succeeds Aivis Greters, who is the house’s first principal conductor until the summer of 2027.

His initial tenure begins in autumn 2027 through the 2029-30 season, and he will conduct a broad repertoire, including at least five opera productions and several concerts.

Milletarì has previously conducted Verdi’s “Otello” at Göteborg Opera and will next appear at the podium with the premiere of a new production of Verdi’s “Luisa Miller.”

In a statement, Henning Ruhe, artistic director opera/drama at the Göteborg Opera said, “We have already enjoyed Vincenzo Milletarì’s versatile musicality. It feels fantastic to continue to develop artistically and to create new, exciting experiences together.”

Milletarì added,“I first conducted at the Gothenburg Opera four years ago, and my collaboration with its exceptional musicians, technicians, and wider staff has been deeply enriching, both musically and personally. To be offered this position is a profound honour. I look forward with immense joy to embarking on this new chapter, and to continuing our work alongside professionals of the highest calibre in this beautiful city.”

Milletarì has conducted a several opera companies including the Norwegian Opera, the Bergen Opera, the Royal Swedish Opera, the Czech National Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
