Vienna State Opera to Live Stream ‘Hänsel und Gretel’

The Vienna State Opera will live stream Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” on Jan. 5, 2020.

The famed opera will star Boaz Daniel as Peter Besenbinder with Stephanie Houtzeel as Gertrud. In the title roles, audiences will see Margaret Plummer as Hänsel and Andrea Carroll as Gretel. Finally, the witch will be portrayed by Monika Bohinec.

Tomás Hanus will conduct the production by Adrian Noble.

The stream kicks off at 4 p.m. local time. That’s around 10 a.m. EDT and 7 a.m. PST for the start time.

Per the official website, tickets start at 16 euros (approximately $16 USD) and can be purchased right off the Vienna State Opera’s streaming website. There are options for monthly subscriptions to future performances on the service depending on users’ preference to experience opera from the comfort of their homes.

Next up on the slate of live streams will be “Lohengrin,” “Salome,” “Fidelio,” “Rusalka,” “Otello,” and “Elektra.”
