Vienna State Opera 2019 Live Stream Preview: Simon O’Neill, René Pape Star in ‘Parsifal’

The Vienna State Opera will present Wagner’s final masterpiece “Parsifal” on April 21, 2019. Those not able to make it to Vienna can still check out the performance via the company’s live stream service.

Simon O’Neill will appear as the title character with René Pape in his signature role of Gurnemanz. Meanwhile Matthias Goerne, Boaz Daniel, and Elena Zhidkova will round out the cast.

Valery Gergiev will conduct with Alvis Hermanis directing.

The stream kicks off at 5:30 p.m. local time and is slated to run until around 10:30 p.m. That’s around 12:30 p.m. EDT and 9:30 a.m. PST for the start time.

Per the official website, tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $16 USD) and can be purchased right off the Vienna State Opera’s streaming website. There are options for monthly subscriptions to future performances on the service depending on users’ preference to experience opera from the comfort of their homes.

Next up on the slate of live streams will be “Fidelio,” and “Rigoletto.”
