Vienna State Opera 2017-18 Live Stream: ‘Das Rheingold’ & ‘Die Walküre’ Kick Off Ring Cycle

Wagner’s “Ring Cycle” will take over Vienna State Opera’s live stream service this week with two major performances.

The cycle begins with “Das Rheingold” on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 7 p.m. local time. The performance is slated to run until around 9:30 p.m. That’s around 2 p.m. EDT and 11 a.m. PST for the start time.

The cast for the preliminary evening includes Tomas Konieczny, Norbert Ernst, Michaela Schuster, Janina Baechle, and Martin Winkler, among others.

Then comes “Die Walküre” on Saturday, April 8, 2018, with Christopher Ventris, Jongmin Park, Konieczny, Simone Schneider, Iréne Theorin, and Schuster. That performance kicks off at 5 p.m. local time. The performance is slated to run until around 9 p.m. That’s around 12 p.m. EDT and 9 a.m. PST for the start time.

Adam Fischer conducts both performances.

While tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $16 USD) for most live streams, this one is special as it will be completely free of charge. All viewers must do is register with the website to enjoy this performance.

Next up on the slate of live streams will be the remaining installments of “Der Rings des Nibelungen,” “Turandot,” “Andrea Chénier,” “Simon Boccanegra,” “Capriccio,” “La Traviata,” “Rigoletto,” “Der Freischütz,” “Lohengrin,” and “Falstaff.”
