Victorian Opera To Present ‘A Little Night Music’

Victorian Opera will present an eight-performance run of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s musical “A Little Night Music,” under the direction of Stuart Maunder AM.

The musical, based on Bergman’s 1955 film Smiles of a Summer Night, “is set in Sweden at the turn of the century and follows a group of aristocrats who rekindle lost love, court new liaisons, and flirt with the follies of the heart.”

The production will feature an all-star cast, including Ali McGregor as Desirée Armfeldt, Simon Gleeson as Fredrik Egerman, Nancye Hayes AM as Madame Armfeldt, Verity Hunt-Ballard as Countess Charlotte Malcolm, Alinta Chidzey as Petra, Samuel Dundas as Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm, Elisa Colla as Anne Egerman, Mat Verevis as Henrik Egerman, Sophia Wasley as Fredrika Armfeldt, Markus Matheis as Mr. Lindquist, Michelle McCarthy as Mrs. Nordstrom, Juel Riggall as Mrs. Anderssen, Paul Biencourt as Mr. Erlanson, Kitillie Blythman as Mrs. Segstrom, and Tiernan Maclaren as Frid.

Head of Music Phoebe Briggs will lead the Victorian Opera Chamber Orchestra.

Performances will take place from June 27 – July 6, 2019 at Arts Center Melbourne’s Playhouse.
