By David Salazar

The Victor Herbert Renaissance Project Live! is set to return with a production of “Mlle. Modiste” on April 26 and 27, 2022.

The work, which will take place at The Theater at St. Jeans in New York City, will star Stephanie Bacastow, Sarah Bleasdale, Keith Broughton, Andrew Buck, Susan Case, Alexa Devlin, Charlotte Detrick, Vince Gover, Mariah Muehler, Jonathan Fox Powers, Christopher Robin Sapp, Alkis Sarantinos, David Seatter, Sarah Caldwell Smith, and Matthew Wages.

The work will be conducted by Michael Thomas with Alyce Mott directing. There will also be choreography by Christine Hall.

The two-act operetta focuses on a shop girl named Fifi who wants to be an opera singer. However, she is so good at her current job that her employer exploits her commercial talents. Additionally, Fifi is in love with Étienne, but their romance finds major obstacles in the form of Étienne’s father, the Count, Henri.

“Mlle. Modiste” is the final work that the Victor Herbert Renaissance Project Live! will present this season. Most recently, the company put on performances of “The Only Girl” in February 2022.
