VHO, SINGTANK, and Defiant Encore Film will release “YAPS” on demand on June 21, 2025.

The documentary follows five young opera singers as they navigate the opera world right after finishing college. The young artists include tenor Matteo Adams, soprano Marissa Howard, mezzo-soprano Ria Ipa, countertenor Chuanyuan Liu, and soprano Amandalynne Perzyk.

The film is directed by Miriam Gordon and explores the challenges of these young artists as they have to foot the financial burden of a career and opera and navigate the “outmoded politics” of traditional opera houses. The film features commentary from such experts as Kathleen Kelly, Alex Fletcher, Jason
Ferrante, Kerriann Otaño, Ariana Wehr, Marc Scorca and Brian Zeger.

The film is produced by Brenda Patterson and features music by Carter Pann and Kevin Putts.
