Veronika Dzhioeva to Perform at Pro-Putin Company Novosibirsk State Opera
By Francisco SalazarVeronika Dzhioeva is set to perform at the pro-Putin Novosibirsk State Opera on April 20 and 24, 2022.
The soprano, who has been a member of the company since 2006, will join the company for one performance of “Tosca” and “Prince Igor.”
Dzhioeva’s performances come after she sang at Opernhaus Zürich and replaced Anna Netrebko for her ties to Putin. The Zürich company previously noted that it would not be tied to Pro-Putin artists at the moment.
The soprano’s return to the Novosibirsk Opera also comes after the Russian company canceled Netrebko’s performance after she condemned the war in Ukraine and publicly distanced herself from Putin.
In a press release, the company said, “We are sure that the truth is with us. We should not be afraid that there are cultural figures who renounce their homeland. Our country is rich in talents and yesterday’s idols will be replaced by others with a clear civic position.” The company also called the war a special military operation, which is a term Putin has used to refer to the War as part of his propaganda agenda.
