By David Salazar

The Texas-based Verdigris Ensemble has announced the return of “Betty’s Notebook.”

“Betty’s Notebook” gathers choral music, electronic soundscapes, visual NFT art, and mysterious history to tell the story of Betty Klenck who famously claimed to hearing the final distress calls of Amelia Earhart through her family’s radio.

The showcase is set to kick off on Feb. 18 and 19 at the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas with another performance at Oak Cliff’s Texas Theater on Feb. 20, 2022; audiences will be able to live stream the final concert via a private link on YouTube.

“This is one of the most iconic projects that truly harness the power and beauty of Dallas culture,” Sam Brukhman, Artistic Director of Verdigris Ensemble, noted in an official release. “We are proud and honored to celebrate our communities on the national stage.”

The performances represent the choral ensemble’s first live Main Series performances since 2019.

The ensemble is set to bring the production to the 2022 Southwestern American Choral Directors Association in Little Rock, Arkansas. There will also be a presentation of the work at Arkansas University in late February.
