Verdi, Puccini & Mozart Dominate Florida Grand Opera’s 2019-20 Season

The Florida Grand Opera has announced its 2019-20 season, celebrating its 79th anniversary with four productions.

Casting has not been announced for the operas but the season does include one Florida premiere.

The season opens with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” the story of  world’s greatest lover. As described by the FGO, “This masterwork is a brilliant combination of an engrossing story of seduction and vengeance set to the lavishly orchestrated musical genius of Mozart.”

Performance Dates: Nov. 16 – Dec. 7, 2019

The season continues with Puccini’s heartbreaking “Madama Butterfly.” The opera is a “devastating saga of devotion, tradition, and sacrifice-and one of the most beloved operas of all time.”

Performance Dates: Jan. 18 – Feb. 1, 2020

Domenico Cimarosa’s “Il matrimonio segreto (The Secret Marriage)” makes its Florida Grand Opera premiere. The opera tells the story of a father who attempts to marry off his daughter with dramatic results and surprising complications in one of the most successful comic operas from the late eighteenth century.

Performance Dates: Feb. 29 – May 8, 2020

The season concludes with Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” The masterpiece is noted as one of Verdi’s most powerful scores and intense dramas.

Performance Dates: March 28 – May 2, 2020
