By Francisco Salazar

The Salzburg Osterfestspiele has its 2020 festival concentrating on the works of Verdi and Beethoven.

This season the festival will present a new production of “Don Carlo” directed by Vera Nemirova. Christian Thielemann will conduct the production, which is set to include a new prologue by Manfred Trojan; this in turn will replace the Act one Fontainebleau scene.

The cast will include Yusif Eyvazov in the title role, Anja Harteros, Ildar Abdrazakov, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Franco Vassallo, and Carlo Colombara. The production is to arrive at the Semperoper Dresden later that season with Anna Netrebko.

The rest of the program will feature music by Beethoven with the festival making a point of honoring the composer’s 250th anniversary. Among the pieces being performed are Beethoven’s famed piano concertos and his iconic symphonies.

Additionally,  maestro Daniel Harding will be the invited conductor set conduct Mahler’s Symphony No. 10.
