Vancouver Opera to Present ‘Habanera!’ Gala

By Francisco Salazar

Vancouver Opera has announced the revival of its iconic black tie gala event, “Habanera!”

The gala will be presented on May 3, 2024 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and will be set against the backdrop of the “Carmen” production.

In a statement, Tom Wright, Vancouver Opera General Director said, “We’re ecstatic to welcome back our signature gala event following a hiatus. To have guests join us on the stage of the vibrant production of Carmen is an incredible feeling. Not only will guests be immersed in the world of Carmen, but they will also hear from two of our principal singers who are performing the roles of Carmen and Don José. Carolyn Sproule and Matthew White will give an incredibly intimate and captivating performance straight from the heart of Carmen led by Maestro Leslie Dala.”

The event will be supported by title sponsor Scotiabank and media sponsor GlobalBC.
