Valery Gergiev to Perform at Festival Verdi

Valery Gergiev is set to return to Parma for the first time in 19 years as part of the Verdi Festival.

The famed conductor will conduct the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna on Oct. 2 at the Teatro Regio di Parma in a concert featuring music by Verdi, Rossini, and Mendelssohn.

Gergiev will conduct Rossini’s “Guillaume Tell” Overture, Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” overture, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4. He will also lead Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

In a statement General Director Anna Maria Meo said, “We are happy to have Valery Gergiev for his Teatro Regio di Parma debut in this very difficult time.

The Festival Verdi has presented productions of “Ernani,” and “Macbeth” and has also presented the Verdi Requiem. The festival is also to present chamber music concerts.
