By Francisco SalazarValery Gergiev could return to Spanish theaters in 2026.
Platea Magazine is reporting that Agencia Camera is coordinating a tour for Gergiev in Spain and is only waiting for the conductor and the Marrinsky Theatre to confirm.
If confirmed, the performances will be the first for Gergiev in the West since 2022 when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Gergiev has been a big supporter of Putin for years and as a result, he was fired from his posts at the Verbier Festival, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and Munich Philharmonic. He was also canceled from such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Teatro alla Scala.
Gergiev has since conducted in Russia at the Mariinsky Theatre and the Bolshoi Theatre, where he became General Director. He has also conducted in China and Iran.
