Vache Baroque Festival to Present Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’

The Vache Baroque Festival will present Purcell’s opera “Dido and Aeneas” on September 4 & 6, 2020.

Katie Bray, winner of the Dame Joan Sutherland Audience Prize at Cardiff Singer of the World 2019, will headline the cast as Dido. Bray’s recent roles include Zerlina in Mozart and Da Ponte’s “Don Giovanni,” title role in Vivaldi’s “La Griselda,” Dorabella in Mozart and Da Ponte’s “Così fan tutte,” Hänsel in Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel,” among others.

She is joined by Jolyon Loy as Aeneas, Betty Makharinsky as Belinda, Angela Hicks as the Second Woman, James Geidt as the Sorcerer, Esther Mallett as the First Witch, Sarah Anne Champion as the Second Witch, and Rory Carver as the Sailor.

Countertenor and composer Jonathan Darbourne will conduct the production by the famed director and musician Thomas Guthrie. The production will be choreographed by Ukweli Roach and designed by Ruth Paton.

The Vache Baroque Festival will be held on the grounds of The Vache, a historic stately home located in the heart of the Chilterns Area near London.
