The Vache Baroque Festival has announced a new video series entitled “VB Showcase,” highlighting women composers of the baroque era. The Festival will release a video every two weeks from May 22 through July 31, 2022.

Featured vocalists include sopranos Hilary Cronin, Angela Hicks, Jasmine Flicker, and mezzo-soprano Karima El Demerdasch.

On the program are compositions by Lady Mary Dering, Lucia Quinciani, Francesca Caccini, Julie Pinel, Elisabetta de Gambarini, and Chiara Margarita Cozzolani.

In a press statement, Festival Co-Founders Betty Makharinsky and Jonathan Darbourne commented, “Sopranos and mezzos achieved cult status during the Baroque era (with rival fans even coming to blows in Handel’s theatre!) but music composed by women did not get the publication then or viability now that we think it deserves. We really hope you enjoy the songs that we have selected for our first VB Showcase series.”
