UrbanArias to World Premiere ‘UNKNOWN’ Song Cycle by Shawn Okpebholo & Marcus Amaker

UrbanArias is set to release “UNKNOWN,” a unique song cycle celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The work, which will be created by composer Shawn Okpebholo and poet Marcus Amaker, will feature baritone Michael Mayes, soprano Taylor Raven, baritone Schyler Vargas, and conductor Robert Wood as he leads members of the Inscape Chamber Orchestra.

The world premiere of the work is set for Oct. 5, 2021, at the Barns at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia. Audiences unable to attend will get a chance to check out the work a few days later when it premieres online on Nov. 11, 2021, via UrbanArias’ official website. Access will be free.

“UNKNOWN” was co-commissioned by UrbanArias, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, Opera Colorado, Minnesota Opera, and Birmingham Opera.

David holds a Masters in Media Management from Fordham University. During his time at Fordham, he studied abroad at the Jagiellonian University in Poland. He also holds a dual bachelor’s from Hofstra University in Film Production and Journalism.
