TVPerú to Stream Award-Winning Production of ‘Alzira’ Tonight

By David Salazar

The jury of the Asociación Ópera XXI de España selected a production of “Alzira” as the Best New Latin American production earlier this month and now audiences around the world have an opportunity to see from the comfort of their homes.

The production was a co-production between the Peruvian Ministry of Culture with the Asociación Bilbaína de Amigos de la Ópera (ABAO) and Ópera Royal de Wallonie. It had its premiere in 2018 in Lima under the direction of Peruvian Jean Pierre Gamarra.

At its premiere the production starred soprano Jaquelina Livieri in the title role, tenor Juan Antonio de Dompablo as Zamoro, baritone limeño Jorge Tello as Gusmano, Xavier Fernández as Álvaro, Carlos Martínez as Ataliba, Juan Pablo Marcos as Otumbo, Manuel Rodríguez as Ovando, and Rosa Parodi as Zuma.

Those who missed the production two years ago will get a chance to stream it tonight on TVPerú at 11 p.m. local time, 12 a.m. EDT.

The work is set to have its premiere in Spain and Liège in 2020.
