Tulsa Opera to Stream Excerpts from Tobias Picker’s ‘Emmeline’ Next Week

Tulsa Opera is set to put Tobias Picker’s “Emmeline” front and center as part of its streaming options online.

Starting on Monday, April 20 the company will dedicate three separate performances to the new opera, which was set to premiere in a new production on May 1, 2020. It has since been moved to the 2021-22 season.

Instead, audiences will get a chance to hear excerpts from the work. The April 20 performance will be headlined by soprano Madison Leonard who will take on the title role. She will perform the opera’s Letter Aria with Picker at the piano. The performance kicks off a 2 p.m. CT.

On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, also at 2 p.m. CT, Leonard will join forces with mezzo-soprano Margaret Lattimore for the duet “They are waiting below” with Justin Williams at the piano. Lattimore is set to portray Aunt Hannah in the opera.

The week-long journey through the opera comes to a close on April 24, 2020 with Leonard taking on the Maryanne Aria, joined by the composer at the piano. This showcase kicks off at 2 p.m. CT.
