Tulsa Opera has announced a major cast change for its upcoming production of “Salome.”

The organization noted that tenor Jay Hunter Morris will be taking on the role of Herod, replacing Anthony Dean Griffey who was originally cast in the part.

Morris is also set to take on the role with the Bard Conservatory Orchestra in a semi-staged production at Bard College’s Fisher Center. His breakthrough came in 2011 when he stepped into the Met Opera’s production of “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung.”

He joins a cast headlined by Patricia Racette in the title role. Katharine Goeldner will perform as Herodias while Wayne Tigges will be Jochanaan. Other cast members include César Delgado and Kevin Thompson as Narraboth and the first Nazarene, respectively.

Thaddeus Strassberg directs while Peter Ash conducts.

The production is set to kick off on Friday, April 29 and runs through May 1st.
