Truro Cathedral to Present Matthew Coleridge’s ‘REQUIEM’

By Afton Wooten

Matthew Coleridge’s “REQUIEM” is scheduled for a performance at the Truro Cathedral on Sept. 23.

Soprano soloist Kirsten Mulcahy is joined by the Requiem in a Day choir and cellist Jayden Lamcellari. The composer conducts.

“REQUIEM” was composed in 2014-15 and is Coleridge’s first major composition and his most frequently-performed work. In 2023, “REQUIEM” landed in the ClassicFM Hall of Fame at #86.  The work was recorded by the Choir of Royal Holloway and released on an album of Coleridge’s choral works in March 2023. It received a 5-star review in BBC Music Magazine, and was selected as ClassicFM’s Album of the Week.

This performance is the culmination of Coleridge’s Requiem in a Day workshop. This event connects around 150 singers to learn, rehearse, and perform the work that day. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. at Truro Cathedral, Saint Mary’s Street in Cornwall.
