Scottish Opera will present a new production of Puccini’s “Turandot,” directed by Sir David McVicar.

The production, which opens on Oct. 22 at Theatre Royal Glasgow before touring to Festival Theatre Edinburgh from Nov. 11 to 22, is presented in a co-production with Irish National Opera. This will also mark the UK-staged premiere of Franco Alfano’s original completion of the opera, performed without cuts or alterations.

“We are doing the Alfano One ending because it solves so many of the problems of the sexual politics of ‘Turandot.’ It’s about Turandot making up her own mind about what she wants, which totally changes the dynamic of the story and the characters, and it becomes so much more interesting as a piece of theatre,” McVicar said, per an official press release.

Conductor Stuart Stratford leads a cast starring Danish soprano Trine Bastrup Møller in the title role, making her company debut. She is joined by Victor Starsky as Calaf, Insung Sim and Graeme Broadbent sharing the role of Timur, Hye Youn Lee as Liù and Jamie MacDougall as Emperor Altoum.
