Toronto Consort Unveils 2024-25 Season
By David SalazarThe Toronto Consort has unveiled its 2024-25 season.
The company will open the season with “A Muses Garden” which features works from the Elizabethan period as curated and hosted by soprano Dame Emma Kirkby.
“It speaks of anguish, delight and ineffable beauty, allowing the singer freedom to embody thoughts and emotions which listeners have recognized and shared ever since! Is it any wonder that returning to Dowland always feels like coming home?” Kirkby said on the official website.
The program features music by Dowland, Hume, Lawes, and Purcell as performed by young singers from the Dowland Collective.
Performance Date: Oct. 11, 2024
Next up is “Navidad” with Esteban La Rotta and Martin Gomes.
Performance Date: Dec. 6, 2024
Then comes “Incarnation” which features music ranging from 12th-century chants to 15th-century carols to contemporary works.
Performance Date: Jan. 10, 2025
“Gregorius – The Holy Sinner” features Sequentia performing vocals and Romanesque harps. The performance spotlights Harmann von Aue’s famed tale of a “man tossed about by fortune and unaware of his incestuous origins, finally finds his own life, returning from near death to become a great holy man.”
Performance Date: Jan. 25, 2025
The season ends with “Olde Madrigals and Folk Songs – Aprile is My Mistress’ Face.”
