By David Salazar

Toronto City Opera is set to present a new production of “Cavalleria Rusticana” this June.

The production, which will open on June 2 and runs through the 5th, will focus on the time period between 1951 and 1961 when over 300,000 Italians emigrated to Canada.

The opera will star Corey Arnold as Turiddu, Angela Maria Sanchez as Santuzza, Andrey Andreychik as Alfio, Lillian Brooks as Mama Lucia, and Rachel Miller as Lola. Stephen Car directs while Director Ivan Jovanovic will be at the piano.

The performances will take place at the Fleck Dance Theatre at Harbourfront Centre.

The company recently put on a concert entitled “Il Giubilo: From Sicily to Toronto” in support of the upcoming “Cavalleria Rusticana.” That performance featured Romulo Delgado, Angela Maria Sanchez, Jennifer Tung, and Ivan Jovanovic.
