Top Opera To See This Weekend – North America (8/31-9/2)

Get Ready For An Outdoor ‘Carmen’ From Pacific Opera Project

By David Salazar

The start of September is a pretty quiet time for opera in North America. But one opera company is taking advantage of the quiet weekend.

For those in America looking for an operatic experience, Berkshire is showcasing its final performance of “Rigoletto.”

But elsewhere, there is one production that opens for one night only.

Carmen – Pacific Opera Project

Nora Graham-Smith stars as the iconic gypsy with Dane Suarez as Don José. As Escamillo, Babatunde Akinboboye stars with Aubrey Scarr as Michaëla. Michael Powers is the music director on the evening in the outdoor showcase of the Bizet masterpiece. Other cast members include Katherine Powers, Maria Dominique Lopez, Derrell Acon, Luvi Avendano, and William Grundler. The production is directed and designed by Josh Shaw and will be showcased at the Ford Amphitheater.
