Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria
Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s production continues at the Vienna house with a starry cast that includes Yonghoon Lee singing Turiddu and Fabio Sartori as Canio. Elina Garanca stars as Santuzza and Marina Rebeka sings the role of Nedda. Graeme Jenkins conducts the classic production.
Don Pasquale – Opera de Paris, France
Javier Camarena and Pretty Yende join forces once more for Donizetti’s comic gem. Michele Pertusi and Christian Senn round out the cast with Michele Mariotti conducting Damiano Michieletto’s production.
Roberto Devereux – Bayerische Staatsoper, Germany
Edita Gruberova sings her second-to-last performance of Donizetti’s third installment of the Tudor trilogy. The run marks her final performances in a staged opera and a continuation of her farewell tour. She stars alongside Charles Castronovo in the title role, Vito Priante, and Silvia Tro Santafé. Frederich Haider conducts the production by Christof Loy. There are still some remaining tickets left.
Eugene Onegin – Deutsche Oper Berlin, Germany
Nicole Car and Etienne Dupuis team up for Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece. Alexander Vedernikov conducts the performance, which also stars Matthew Newlin and Ante Jerkunica.
Royal Opera House – La Forza del Destino, United Kingdom
Anna Netrebko and Jonas Kaufmann sing the second performance of Verdi’s rarely performed work in a new production by Christof Loy. The production reunites the two megastars for the first time in an opera production since 2008.
Maestro Antonio Pappano conducts the production, which also stars Veronica Simeoni, Alessandro Corbelli, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Ludovic Tézier, Robert Lloyd and Carlo Bosi. The performance is sold out but it will be filmed for a later relay in cinemas around the world.
