Arabella – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria
Emily Magee stars in Strauss’ operatic gem alongside Tomasz Konieczny, Daniela Fally, and Chen Reiss. Axel Kober conducts the Vienesse score in Sven-Eric Bechtolf’s classic production.
La Gioconda – La Monnaie, Belgium
Beatrice Uria-Monzon and Hui He share the title role of Ponchielli’s masterwork in a new production by Olivier Py. Stefano La Colla and Andrea Carè alternate as Enzo singing the famous “Cielo e Mare” while Silvia Tro Santafe and Szilvia Voros share the role of Laura. Franco Vassallo and Scott Hendricks are the villainous Barnaba, while Ning Liang sings all performances of La Cieca.
Viaje Barroco – Teatro Colón de Bogota, Colombia
Lina López, Marina Pardo, Damien Pass, and Francesco Vultaggio star in this experimental dialogue of baroque music that also mixes ballet and theater. Piergiorgio del Nunzio conducts the Ensemble Música Amable with dancers Fernando Montaño and a production by Angelo Smimmo.
Rusalka, Opéra National de Paris, France
Camilla Nylund sings the title role in Dvorak’s fantastical opera with Klaus Florian Vogt, Michelle DeYoung, and Karita Mattila. Susanna Mälkki conducts Robert Carsen’s classic production.
Orfeo et Eurydice, Staatsoper Hamburg, Germany
Dmitry Korchak and Andriana Chuchman star in John Neumeier’s new production of Gluck’s work. The two have previously performed the opera to great acclaim and were featured on the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production which aired on PBS. Alessandro de Marchi conducts.
