“Tosca” – Vienna State Opera, Austria
Vienna audiences are in for a treat with Angela Gheorghiu in the title role as Tosca, her signature role and one she has dominated throughout the world. She is joined by Massimo Giordano in the role of Cavaradossi. Erwin Schrott sings the role of Scarpia in his role debut. Frederic Chaslin conducts Margarethe Wallmann legendary production. The performance takes place on Friday.
“Salome” – Royal Opera House, England
Malin Byström, our Artist of the week, takes on the title role of Salome in what critics have praised. She leads a cast that also includes Michael Volle as Jokanaan, John Daszak as Herod, Michaela Schuster as Herodias. The production, which will be showcased on Friday, is conducted by Henrik Nánási.
“Das Rheingold” – Bayerische Staatsoper, Germany
The Munich theater continues its ring cycles with a stellar cast that includes Wolfgang Koch as Wotan, Markus Eiche as Donner, Dean Power as Froh, Norbert Ernst as Loge, John Lundgren as Alberich, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke as Mime, Alexander Tsymbalyuk as Fasolt, Ekaterina Gubanova as Fricka, and Golda Schultz as Freia. Kirill Petrenko conducts Andreas Kriegenburg’s production. The opera will be presented on Saturday.
“Elektra” – Royal Swedish Opera, Sweden
Two of Sweden’s greatest singers perform Strauss’ musical masterpiece. Irene Theorin takes on her signature Elektra while Katarina Dalayman performs Clytemnestra. The two legends perform alongside Cornelia Beskow as Chrysothemis. Simone Young conducts.
“La Forza del Destino” – Mariinsky Theatre, Russia
Maria Guleghina reprises her signature Leonora in Verdi’s late masterpiece. She performs alongside an all-Russian cast that includes Vladislav Sulimsky as Don Carlo and Hovhannes Ayvazyan as Don Alvaro. Mikhail Sinkevich conducts Elijah Moshinsky’s legendary production on Saturday night.
