Top 5 Operas To See This Weekend (2/2-4): Diana Damrau, Jonas Kaufmann & Sonya Yoncheva Headline Concert Tours

Lulu – Hamburg State Opera, Germany
Grammy winner Barbara Hannigan continues her run in the title role of “Lulu,” Berg’s masterpiece. The production by Christoph Marthaler also stars Angela Denoke, Jochen Schmeckenbecher, and Sergei Leiferkus. Music Director Kent Nagano conducts.
Diana Damrau and Jonas Kaufmann – Germany
This weekend the German superstars take Baden-Baden and Munich by storm performing Hugo Wolf’s “The Italian Songbook.” The work includes traditional Italian love songs as translated by Paul Heyse. Helmut Deutsch accompanies the two stars.
Sonya Yoncheva – Grand Theatre Geneve, Switzerland
Sonya Yoncheva returns to Geneva on her Verdi tour. Together with her brother Marin Yonchev, the two will perform selections from her recent Verdi album as well as duets from the composer. Music Director Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève. The opera house is also presenting a new production of “Faust” with John Osborn and Samantha Hankey.
La Traviata – Theater Basel, Switzerland
Corrine Winters continues her run of Traviata, a role she has dominated throughout the world. The production by Daniel Kramer is conducted by Titus Engel. The production also stars Pavel Valuzhyn and Ivan Inverardi.
La Forza del Destino – Welsh National Opera, Wales
Carlo Rizzi conducts the Verdi’s rarely performed masterpiece in David Pountney’s production. The opera is set to star Mary Elizabeth Williams, Gwyn Hughes Jones, Luis Cansino, and Donald Maxwell. The opera will be performed at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
