Toni Marie Palmertree & Jonathan Burton Made Surprise Lyric Opera Of Chicago Debuts

By Francisco Salazar

On Oct. 20 two rising stars in the opera world made unexpected Lyric Opera of Chicago debuts in Verdi’s “Luisa Miller.”

Toni Marie Palmertree sang the title role, replacing Krassimira Stoyanova, who was under the weather; Jonathan Burton sang Acts two and three as Rodolfo, replacing Joseph Calleja who is recovering from a cold.

Palmertree has performed at the San Francisco Opera in “Turandot” and “Madama Butterfly.” She has also appeared with the Syracuse Opera and Festival Opera of New Zealand.

Burton recently performed with the Maryland Lyric Opera in “Cavalleria Rusticana” and OperaWire raved about his voice full of “passionate youthfulness.” This season he performs with the Boston Lyric Opera and Austin Opera.

Stoyanova and Calleja return for the Oct. 25 performance and sing “Luisa Miller” the 31, 2019.
